Daytona road course replaces Fontana on NASCAR schedule

We didn’t even make it through the offseason before COVID changed next year’s schedule, and we’re running the Daytona road course, again.

NASCAR announced Tuesday that the road course at Daytona International Speedway will replace Auto Club Speedway on the 2021 schedule. It moves to the second race on the schedule. Homestead-Miami Speedway takes Auto Club’s spot on the schedule.

All three series will run the road course, but the Truck Series won’t race at Homestead.

Concerns over COVID restrictions in California prompted NASCAR to make this move.

Auto Club was included on the original 2021 calendar as the third race of the season, and first of the West Coast Swing. It was to be the last race on the two-mile configuration.

NASCAR announced, however, that it plans to run one more race weekend on Auto Club’s current configuration, before it’s reconfigured into a short track in time for the 2023 season.
