VAR have announced John Bennett as their first driver for the 2025 Formula 2 season. This year, he already debuted with the team in the last two races of the 2024 F2 season.
John Bennett to Drive for VAR in the 2025 F2 Season
As the 2025 F2 grid gradually takes shape, the latest driver to be announced is John Bennett. The Englishman made his debut in F2 with the Dutch team – Van Amersfoort Racing – during the last two races of the 2024 season after finishing as the runner-up in the 2024 GB3 championship.
Now, a new challenge awaits Bennett in one of the most competitive grids in the feeder series.
Moving to Single-Seater Racing
Bennett began his racing career in the Ginetta GT5 Challenge, where he finished second in the championship in 2021.
The following year, he transitioned to GB3 with Elite Motorsport, finishing the season in eighth place and achieving his first single-seater podium.
In 2023, Bennett moved to Rodin Motorsport to compete for the championship alongside Callum Voisin and Costa Toparis. However, it was not an easy season for Bennett; he ended the year with only one podium finish while his teammate Voisin won the championship, finishing 267 points ahead of him.
In need of a change, the Brit switched teams and joined JHR Developments. He felt more comfortable with the car and competed for the title against Louis Sharp.
While the Australian had the upper hand, Bennett concluded the season behind him with three victories and eight additional podium finishes.

Moving to Formula 2
Alongside his campaign in Britain, Bennett also participated in the Formula Regional Middle East Championship and two rounds of the Formula Regional European Championship.
The real breakthrough came when Van Amersfoort Racing called him to replace Enzo Fittipaldi for the final two rounds of the F2 season. During these races, he only scored points once but managed a remarkable recovery.
At the start of the Qatar Feature Race, he stalled and fell one lap behind the rest of the field. However, thanks to a safety car, he was able to un-lap himself and initiate a comeback. In the end, he crossed the finish line in eighth place, earning his first points in Formula 2.
Bennett’s skills impressed Van Amersfoort Racing so much that they decided to continue to trust him as their full-time driver. He is their first driver announced for the 2025 Formula 2 season.
Bennett also participated in the post-season test in Abu Dhabi, alongside Rafael Villagomez, who had been his teammate for the last two rounds of 2024.
