F1 News: Aston Martin Technical Director Dan Fallows Leaves Role for Newey

Dan Fallows steps down from Aston Martin Technical Director ahead of Adrian Newey’s imminent arrival at the team.

With Adrian Newey set to join Aston Martin in March 2025, Dan Fallows, who currently occupies the Technical Director role has stepped down.

In September, Aston Martin announced that they have signed F1 legend Adrian Newey from Red Bull Racing. The deal stands at an outstanding £20 million a year agreement.

Fallows joined Aston Martin, also from Red Bull, back in April 2022. He played an important part in Aston Martin’s success in the 2023 season. The Silverstone-based team enjoyed 8 podiums last season with Fernando Alonso, being the team closest to Red Bull in the early part of the year.

Despite Adrian Newey’s arrival, Fallows will not actually be leaving the team, but rather just stepping down from his respective position. Aston Martin have announced that Fallows will be staying within the group. Although, it is still unclear what role Fallows will cover in the near future.

With Lawrence Stroll’s motive to turn Aston Martin into a World Championship contending team, the team’s tehcnical department has been growing. The most impressive addition will be Adrian Newey who has seen a multitude of success in Formula 1 since the 90s. Former Ferrari tech chief Enrico Cardille will also be joining the team, alongside Andy Cowell, CEO of Aston Martin Aramco F1 Team.

“I would like to thank Dan for his contribution to Aston Martin Aramco in the last two years.

“Dan led the team to the success of the AMR23 which secured eight podiums last season. – Andy Cowell.

Dan Fallows stated:

“In my time at Aston Martin, it has been a joy and a privilege to guide the technical team on their journey towards being race and championship winners.

It is time to pass on the baton, but I look forward to watching the team’s future success, which I am sure will come soon.” – Dan Fallows.

The team to watch

Having attracted Adrian Newey into the team, it is clear that their project has been more than alluring to those within the paddock. After Ferrari announced that they have signed Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes, it was thought that the Italian outfit would be successful in adding Newey to their team. However, it was Lawrence Stroll who was victorious in their pursuit.

This year, Aston Martin have struggled to impress as they sit in the middle of the pack. With three races left in the 2024 Formula 1 season, they are currently in P5. They are 37 points clear of Alpine, who saw a resurgence in performance at the chaotic wet race at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Ahead of Aston Martin are Mercedes, comfortably 296 points clear of Stroll’s team.

Aston Martin will definitely be a team to watch next year, as a renowned name will take over their technical department. However, 2026 and 2027 may be the years that will tell all about this new collaboration between F1’s most popular engineer and F1 veteran Fernando Alonso.

The Silverstone-based team is aiming to see themselves bring the fight to the likes of Red Bull, McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes, having had a taste of it last year. With their early success in 2023 being followed by a massive drop in performance halfway through the season, and into 2024, the change seems imminent.
