5 Drivers Who Exceeded Expectations In Formula E’s Season 10

Five drivers exceeded the expectations during Formula E Season 10, concluding the championship greatly.

Formula E Season 10 presented one of the tightest World Title fights, with the whole grid giving the best on track and signing one of their best performances. Among them, five drivers exceeded the expectations had on their year:

Pascal Wehrlein

The German driver finished the championship in first position, obtaining his first Formula E World Title. Wehrlein, who also fought for the championship in Season 9, was one of the favourites at the beginning of the year. However, during the season, the Jaguar lineup seemed closer to the title. At the end of Season 10, the Porsche driver surprised everyone, jumping back from a more anonymous position and re-entering the fight for the first position. The German collected three wins and five podiums, finishing only two races out of the points (the Misano E-Prix and Shanghai second round). Consistency was the key to his success.

Oliver Rowland

Oliver Rowland made his Formula E comeback this year, returning after the negative experience with Mahindra. The Brit signed a contract with Nissan, carrying the team for the whole season. By the end of the season, Rowland wasn’t involved in the title fight anymore, but he finished a positive season in fourth position. During sixteen rounds, he conquered two wins and seven podiums, scoring zero points in six rounds. By the end of the season, Rowland collected 156 points of the 182 obtained by Nissan during the whole season.

Antonio Felix Da Costa

Antonio Felix Da Costa was one of the surprises of Season 10. After a negative Season 9, the Portuguese collected four wins in sixteen rounds. Da Costa stepped on the podium only those times, without achieving a second or a third place during the whole season. The Porsche driver, involved in the title fight until the latest races of the calendar, had to face many technical issues and incidents, and scored zero points during eight races. At the end of the season, he was sixth in the standings.

Jean-Eric Vergne

Jean-Eric Vergne concluded Formula E Season 10 fifth in the standings. The DS Penske driver stepped on the podium three times during the year, obtaining 139 points in front of the 200 collected by the team throughout the year. Vergne didn’t score points on only two occasions during the season, the Tokyo E-Prix and the first London round. The French driver, known for his consistency during his entire career, didn’t disappoint the expectations, improving his performance compared to Season 9.

Maximilian Guenther

Maximilian Guenther, a Maserati driver, conquered one win and two podiums during the season. The German, who scored zero points seven times during the whole year, finished the season in eighth position. Guenther collected 73 points, carrying the Italian-Monegasque team, which ended the season with 81 points. It’s a positive result for a team that debuted in Formula E only last year and had to face many difficulties during the season, not scoring any points during seven rounds after the first part of the year noted for consistency.
