Formula E announces a junior series. The new category is called NXT Gen Cup and will be a fully electric championship.
The NXT Gen Cup will be open to male and female drivers and the category will follow Formula E during the European races. The calendar of the new series includes Misano, Monaco, Berlin, and London, the final weekend of Season 10, for a total of six races. Young talents will compose the grid, with the age of the drivers going from 15 to 25 years old. The announcement of the lineups will arrive in the next weeks. The category will allow young drivers to compete in a brand-new feeder series, helping Formula E to give fans more action and excitement during the weekends.
The Misano E-Prix will host the first appointment of the NXT Gen Cup. The Italian appointment is going to take place between the 13th and 14th of April. The series is going to have two practice sessions of twenty minutes, except for Monaco where there will be only one session. The free practice will be followed by a twenty-minute qualifying session, and another twenty minutes dedicated to the race. NXT Gen Cup will use a Lestrup Racing Team’s car called LRT NXT1. A total of twenty cars are going to debut in Misano.

Fredrik Lestrup is the founder of the series:
“For NXT Gen Cup to go from an idea on paper less than two years ago to racing together with the ABB FIA Formula E and DTM this year is mind-boggling and an inspiring proof of the hard work of everyone involved. We have together with Formula E and DTM created a spectacular calendar that will provide our junior drivers with a robust foundation to start their racing careers and show their talents to some of the best teams and partners in the world. I want to extend a huge thanks to everyone who has made this possible and we are thoroughly motivated to start our most exciting season so far!”
