Where Does Kyle Larson Stand Amongst Other Bristol Legends?

It takes a lot of skill and patience to conquer a race track like Bristol Motor Speedway. You have to take care of your car for 500 laps. Not to mention your in-lap traffic throughout a race. Incidents out of your control can happen at any time. For Kyle Larson, that just hasn’t been the case for the last two trips to the ‘Last Great Coliseum’. Not to mention, he’s been statistically one of the best at the track in each of the last six races there.

Larson took another huge step this past weekend, as he continues to further cement his legacy in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Where Does Kyle Larson Stand Amongst Other Bristol Legends?

Bristol Motor Speedway has always proven to be synonymous with the legends and best drivers in NASCAR History. It’s no surprise that NASCAR Hall of Famers Darrell Waltrip, Cale Yarborough, Dale Earnhardt Sr, Rusty Wallace, and Jeff Gordon are among the best to ever race at Bristol. Waltrip takes the cake as he won 12 times at the 0.533-mile oval.

As for Cale, he’s the all-time lap leader in Bristol history with over 4,000 laps led. Wallace and Earnhardt, like Yarborough, went to victory lane on nine occasions. Then you look ahead to guys that are still active today. Kyle Busch has conquered the Last Great Coliseum eight times in his career. This easily cemented his place among the legends of this great track.

Kyle Larson has easily staked his claim as the next Bristol Legend.

Larson is a Lap Leading Machine

The best way to put yourself in a position to win at Bristol is to lead laps. Kyle Larson has done that at a very high rate. You’re talking about a guy who’s now won the last two Bristol races while also leading over 400 laps in each event.

Larson has been nearly untouchable at Bristol when he has led that many laps. He’s won three of the last six Bristol races. He’s not going to match a mark like Waltrip’s seven-straight Bristol wins, but who’s to say he can’t sweep Bristol this year to make it three-straight wins?

Larson has already moved into the Top Nine in career laps led at Bristol. A few more races at the track, leading 400 laps, and he’s going to start getting into historic territory.

Kyle Larson continues to put up legendary performances, whether his dominant performance at Homestead or this past weekend’s victory at Bristol. Larson is on a mission. He’s now up to 31 career Cup victories.

And he’s quickly catching some huge names. Kyle Larson isn’t going anywhere, and in the famous words of Thanos from Marvel, Kyle Larson is inevitable.
