Introducing Louis Foster: RLL’s Rookie Driver for 2025

Louis Foster is the newest addition to the IndyCar field for 2025. Foster, a product of the Formula Series ladder, is set to make his debut for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing at St. Petersburg in the #45 Honda.

Introducing Louis Foster: RLL’s Rookie Driver For 2025

There are just about two months to the start of IndyCar’s next racing season. One addition to the grid is 21-year-old Louis Foster, who’s joining Rahal Letterman Lanigan (RLL) Racing as a full-time entry. 

Foster’s racing career began when he was karting as a child and he’s only gotten better since then.

F4 Racing Career 

After racing in the Ginetta Junior Championship in 2017 and 2018, Foster moved up as a driver for Double R Racing for the 2019 F4 British Championship. He won the second race of the season. As the season went on he won two more races and a third-place finish. This gave him a 17-point lead in the F4 driver’s championship. 

Foster continued to stay in the battle for the championship title that year, with three more wins and nine more podium finishes. The title fight went to the season finale at Brands Hatch with Zane Maloney winning the championship, Sebatián Álavarez was the runner up and Foster came in third. 

F3 Season Recap

Then, Foster graduated to the BRDC British F3 Championship and continued to race with Double R Racing. The opening race took place on August 1 and second after being postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Foster qualified on the pole for both races that weekend. 

He got his first F3 win during the first race at Donington Park. As the season continued, Foster was continuously scoring top-10 finishes. His second win of the year came during the second visit to Donington Park after starting sixth on the grid.

Snetterton was considered Foster’s most successful F3 race weekend. He secured his second double pole position of the season as well as got his third win and a second-place podium. After the weekend was over, he also took the lead in the Jack Cavill Pole Position Cup. 

Euroformula Open Success

Foster made his Euroformula Open debut at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. He was once again competing as a member of Double R Racing His first win of the series came during the second race. 

After his debut in Spa, it was announced that Foster would also take part in the season finale at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. He finished eighth in both race one and two and had a podium finish during race 3. 

In 2021, Foster raced full-time in Euroformula Open as an entry for CryptoTower Racing, During the first round of the season, he finished on the podium during races 1 and 3. Foster went on to secure two more podiums during the second round. During the third round at Spa, he had a triple win. Foster finished the year as Euroformula Open vice-champion. 

Foster’s Indy NXT Championship 

Following the conclusion of the 2021 Euroformula Open, Foster spent a full season racing in Indy Pro 2000 for the 2022 season. He raced as a member of Exclusive Autosport. Foster won seven races and won the championship title during the final round in Portland. 

He made the official move to racing in Indy NXT in 2023 following his Indy Pro Championship win. Foster signed with Andretti Autosport for both the 2023 and 2024 season. 

He became the 2024 Indy NXT champion after winning eight out of the 14 races on the calendar. Foster also qualified on pole seven times and had 12 podium finishes throughout the course of the season. He also collected points for the fastest lap seven different times. While most of his wins came from starting on pole, he won the race at the IMS Road Course after starting on row two. Foster finished the Indy NXT season with 639 points, giving him more than a 100-point gap between him and runner-up, Jacob Abel. 

Foster will get the chance to kick off his IndyCar racing career with RLL starting at the beginning of the 2025 season at the Firestone Grand Prix Of St. Petersburg.
