Formula E Announces Biggest Schedule Yet For Season 9

Formula E Gen3 Car - Season 9

Season 9 of Formula E will expand to 18 races across four continents and introduce two new E-Prix events in 2023.

As the title race continues to heat up in Season 8 following the Marrakesh E-Prix, one eye in Formula E begins to turn towards next season. 2023 will be a pivotal year for the FIA’s all-electric World Championship. The introduction of the new Gen3 car will also welcome two new teams. And this past week we got our first look at the Season 9 schedule.

The 2023 schedule will feature the debut of races in India (Hyderabad) and Brazil (São Paulo). The calendar will once again see five double-header weekends, a staple for Formula E. But where is the New York City E-Prix? Will the Canadian event get a chance to return? And like Formula 1 hopes to, will the Season 9 schedule visit South Africa?

Alberto Longo, Co-Founder and Chief Championship Officer, Formula E said, “We will continue to push the international boundaries of all-electric street racing with E-Prix in Hyderabad and São Paulo, while maintaining the hugely popular races in Diriyah, Mexico City, Berlin, Monaco, Rome and London with Jakarta and Seoul now established on the calendar. We are also working hard to include Cape Town and a race in the USA when the provisional calendar is updated later this year.”

Reports speculate that South Africa could appear in either Round 5 or 6. While the US E-Prix is most likely the June TBD event. However, the Canadian event in Vancouver remains a long shot.

New Changes Formula E Teams in Season 9

The Gen3 car will be lighter, with a slimmer frame, but offer more horsepower. An already competitive series will become even more so. More overtakes, closer racing, and the unexpected should be regular themes in Season 9. In addition, current champions Mercedes will make way for the all-new McLaren entering Formula E. They will be joined by the debut of Masteri, bringing two iconic car brands into the series.
