Chris Buescher sidelined from Gateway with COVID

Chris Buescher steps out of the No. 17 RFK Racing Ford, this weekend, at Gateway, due to testing positive for COVID-19.

MADISON, Ill. — Chris Buescher must wait a year to make his first start at Gateway.

The driver of the No. 17 Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing Ford will sit out this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series Enjoy Illinois 300 at World Wide Technology Raceway after he tested positive for COVID.

RFK Racing said he’s expected to return to the seat for next weekend’s race at Sonoma Raceway.

Zane Smith takes over the No. 17 in his place for Gateway.

At press time, NASCAR hasn’t announced whether or not it’s granting Chris Buescher a waiver to remain eligible for the playoffs. After his barrel roll at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Sunday, he left the Coca-Cola 600 21st in points.

About Tucker White

He graduated from the University of Tennessee in December of 2020 to pursue a career in sports writing. As an alumnus of the University of Tennessee, and a native of Knoxville, Tennessee, he's a diehard fan of the Tennessee Volunteers. Especially Tennessee football.
