According to Motorsport.com Italia, Robert Kubica is set to return to Formula 1 in a test organised by the Renault F1 Team in Valencia.

The apparent test will see Kubica sit behind the wheel of the Lotus E20 F1 car of the 2012 Formula 1 Season which was designed by Mercedes’ James Allison. The E20 was famously driven by Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean over the course of the season, securing ten podiums in total and winning the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
If this is the case, it will be the first time that Kubica will have driven a Formula 1 car since 2011 after he tested the Renault E31 before his near fatal accident in a rally car in Italy. The accident saw Kubica suffer from a partial amputation of his forearm, which has left the Polish driver with limited hand movement, meaning that he would struggle behind the wheel of an F1 car due the demanding work on the steering wheel which is required by the driver.
Most recently, Kubica has tested an LMP1 car of the World Endurance Championship for the ByKolles team, which saw him lap faster than the team’s regular drivers around the Bahrain International Circuit. Kubica also tested a Formula E car at the start of May around Donington Park, with the aim of competing in the New York ePrix.
If Kubica does test a Formula 1 car in Valencia, a return to the sport for the 32 year old is very unlikely due to the injury that he carries.
In his Formula 1 career, Kubica drove for BMW Sauber and Renault from 2006 – 2010. In this time, the Pole secured 12 podium finishes along with one win at the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix – one year after his accident at circuit which saw him miss the US Grand Prix as a result of the crash.
