Haas F1 targeting double points finish in Canada and Toro Rosso in the Constructors Championship

Haas F1 targeting double points finish in Canada and Toro Rosso in the Constructors Championship

The Canadian Grand Prix marks the seventh race of the 2017 Formula 1 Season, and it will be contested around the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal. It is at this weekend where the American outfit are aiming to to secure a second double points finish in succession, with both Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen aiming to finish inside of the top ten.

The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is a circuit that both Grosjean and Magnussen have traditionally run well at, with Grosjean finishing in second place with Lotus in 2012 and in tenth place in 2015. Magnussen also finished in the points here in his rookie season in 2014, finishing in ninth place for McLaren.

So far in 2017, the Haas F1 Team have finished in the points in four of the first six races of the season. As a result of this, the team are locked in a battle for seventh in the Constructors’ Standings with Renault, with both teams having 14 points to their name so far this season. Overtaking Renault in the points is a key aim for Haas this weekend, but they are also aiming to overtake Toro Rosso for fifth in the standings according to team principal Guenther Steiner:

You see the points difference between Toro Rosso, which is fifth and us in seventh. They’ve got 29 points and we’ve got 14. They have double the points, but 14 is not insurmountable. You get two good results and you’re there. That shows how competitive it is in the midfield.”
