Esteban Gutierrez to race in Formula E

Following recent reports, it has been announced that Esteban Gutierrez will join the Formula E grid in 2017 for the Mexico City ePrix and the New York City ePrix.

Esteban Gutierrez to race in Formula E

Gutierrez, 25, made his Formula 1 debut in 2013 driving for Sauber. The Mexican remained with the team in 2014, however, lost his drive for the 2015 Formula 1 Season. After one year out of F1, Gutierrez once again lined up on the grid in 2016, this time driving for the Haas F1 Team alongside Romain Grosjean.

After failing to impress at Haas F1 and after failing to finish in the top ten in any race of the 2016 F1 Season, Gutierrez once again lost his place in Formula 1, being replaced by Kevin Magnussen.

Despite this, Gutierrez remained hopeful in remaining in F1 in 2017, with places still available at the Sauber F1 Team and at Manor. However, these places have since vanished, with Marcus Ericsson and Pascal Wehrlein being confirmed at Sauber for 2017 and Manor entering administration late last week.

Gutierrez will join the Formula E grid in 2017 to compete in the Mexico ePrix which will be held on April 1st, as well as the inaugural New York City ePrix in July. The former F1 driver may also compete in other events for the remainder of the current season, aiming to secure a full time place on the grid for the 2017-18 season which will start later this year.

It has not yet been confirmed for which team Gutierrez will race for.
