How Close Is World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler to the Career Grand Slam?

Many consider completing the career Grand Slam one of the biggest achievements in men’s professional golf. This means winning all four major championships, which are The Masters Tournament, the U.S. Open Championship, The Open Championship, and the PGA Championship.

Rory McIlroy completed the Grand Slam at the 11th attempt and eleven years after his last major title by seeing off Justin Rose in a thrilling playoff at Augusta National earlier this month. The Irishman joined the likes of Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods as one of just six golfers to have won all four majors.

How Close Is Scheffler to the Career Grand Slam?

Scheffler won The Masters in 2022 and 2024, and those remain the only majors he has won, after finishing runner-up at the 2022 U.S. Open and 2023 PGA Championship. Hence, the 28-year-old needs to win the remaining three majors to complete the career Grand Slam. Scheffler has only played in four Open Championships but has finished in the top 25 each time.

I don’t have the understanding of what it’s like to be asked about the career Grand Slam but I have a small understanding of what it’s like to be asked: ‘hey, you accomplished this, but you haven’t accomplished that,'” said Scheffler after McIlroy won the Masters earlier this month. “It can be very taxing on people sometimes. Definitely from the outside it looked a lot more like relief than anything (for Rory).”

“Winning the career Grand Slam, I think that’s something that any golfer would dream of, but at the end of the day, I’m just trying to get the most out of myself. That’s about it,” he added.

Could Scheffler Complete the Grand Slam This Year?

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler has already won the Masters Tournament on two occasions, but still needs to win the PGA Championship, U.S. Open, and The Open Championship to complete the Grand Slam. So realistically, how soon can the 28-year-old win the three majors he needs?

Scheffler could win the career Grand Slam as early as July 20, 2025. The PGA Championship, the second leg of the career Grand Slam, takes place from Thursday, May 15 to Sunday, May 18 at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The U.S. Open, the third leg of the career Grand Slam, will start on Thursday, June 12, and end on Sunday, June 15, at Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pennsylvania. The Open Championship, the final leg of the career Grand Slam, kicks off on Thursday, July 17 and the final round takes place on Sunday, July 20 at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland.

Scheffler might not dominate all three remaining majors this year, but the 28-year-old ranks among the favorites to win each title. Even if he’s unable to win all three, Scheffler will take a step closer to completing the career Grand Slam if he wins at least one of the Majors.
