Banking on Golf: HSBC Shocks Fans with Massive LIV Golf Deal

LIV Golf has announced a massive multi-year partnership with HSBC. The Saudi-backed league revealed on Thursday that it has signed a multi-year deal with HSBC for the banking giant to serve as the official global banking partner of the LIV Golf League.

HSBC Becomes Official Global Banking Partner of LIV Golf in Multi-Year Partnership

LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil has praised HSBC’s track record in golf after the announcement of the Saudi-backed league’s new partnership with HSBC. This new partnership gives HSBC a strong presence at all 14 LIV Golf events in the 2025 season, and it will take on key roles in broadcasting, community work, and team sponsorship.

HSBC will also take part in the media side of LIV Golf. It will sponsor a broadcast feature called “9 to Play,” which airs during the final nine holes of each tournament. This segment reaches more than 875 million homes in over 120 countries. The goal is to make the final stretch of each event more exciting for fans at home.

“HSBC’s track record in supporting and advancing the game of golf is inspiring and admirable, and we are proud to welcome them into LIV Golf’s growing roster of global partners,” O’Neil said. “HSBC’s global footprint and ongoing presence in professional tournaments align perfectly with our mission to build the game for the next era of players and fans. Few sports leagues can claim a truly global reach, making a partnership with HSBC a natural alignment in our pursuit of a shared vision…Together, we have an opportunity to engage younger fans, connect through music, culture, and innovation, and inspire the next generation, unlocking meaningful potential for both our brands and the sport we love.”

HSBC Delighted To Partner With LIV Golf

HSBC has a long history with golf. It already supports major events like The Open, the AIG Women’s Open, and the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. This deal with LIV Golf adds another chapter to its involvement with the sport, but this time with a fast-growing and modern tour.

HSBC’s CEO of International Wealth and Premier Banking, Barry O’Byrne said the partnership reflects HSBC’s long-standing connection to the game.

“We are delighted to join forces with LIV Golf and are really excited to see what we can create together,” O’Byrne said. “HSBC has more than two decades of legacy in the sport, and we can’t wait to bring another level of excitement to our clients and sports fans. We are looking forward to working with LIV Golf to continue to attract new audiences to watch and play the game. We are proud to continue to open up a world of opportunity for golf, both on and off the course and have LIV Golf alongside us on this journey.”

As part of the deal, HSBC will sponsor two LIV Golf teams: Crushers GC, led by U.S. Open champion Bryson DeChambeau, and Majesticks GC, co-captained by golf legends Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter, and Henrik Stenson. Both teams will be adorned with HSBC branding throughout the season. This includes visible placement on apparel, gear, and in promotional activities during tournaments.
