Five-Star Cornerback DJ Pickett Commits to LSU

The Tigers have gained the pledge of the five-star cornerback DJ Pickett, one of the premier players in the country regardless of recruiting service. Pickett committed to the LSU over Oregon and Miami. Currently ranked fourth, LSU has now comfortably settled back into the conversation of the top recruiting classes in the country.

Pickett is a consensus five-star prospect among all major recruiting services. Although he’s listed as a safety by the 247 Sports composite rankings, defensive backs coach Corey Raymond recruited the 6’4” Pickett as a cornerback for the Tigers. Raymond established a relationship with Pickett while on Florida’s staff. That bond combined with Pickett’s pre-existing intrigue with LSU led to a golden opportunity for the Tigers to become a major player in his recruitment. Pickett committed to the Tigers after a late push from Oregon.

Astonishing Attributes

Explosive, lengthy, and rangy, Pickett has played both ways in high school. He possesses multiple elite traits that immediately show up when watching his film. Defensively, he plays the ball well and is a threat to score after every interception. The physical nature of his play outweighs his 180-pound frame. Pickett changes direction effortlessly and covers ground quickly with his long strides. Speed is no issue, as he has posted a sub-10.3 time in the 100-meter dash. A three-sport athlete, he has significant room to grow once completely focused on football.

Current Class Standing

The Tigers now have 17 commitments for the class of 2025, fewer than all three teams currently ranked above them. Three of the 17 are five-star prospects. Now that Pickett has committed, the last five commitments to LSU have all been on the defensive side of the ball, and the last two have been in the secondary.

More good news could be on the way for the Tigers, with top-10 corner Jaboree Antoine, expected to announce his commitment this week. A native of Raymond’s hometown of New Iberia, Antoine was previously committed to LSU before reopening his recruitment to consider Miami among others. Four-star safety and Nashville native CJ Jimcoily is also heavily considering the Tigers and could publicly decide to join the safety class soon.
