He was calm, he was challenged, and he was clutch.
Three words that adequately describe the freshman sensation at quarterback for the Georgia Bulldogs, Jacob Eason.
Calm
The mannerisms Eason exhibited in the final drive of his first true road game start were what every coach wants to see in the pocket: calm and conscious. With no timeouts left, Eason was composed as he lead the Bulldogs down the field and threw the game-winning touchdown pass to Isaiah McKenzie on a fourth and 10 play.
Understanding that Nick Chubb, star running back for the Bulldogs, was absolutely shut down by 8-9 man fronts, Eason knew the game was going to be put into his hands, and he definitely delivered with a career high of 308 yards and three touchdowns.
Challenged
Jacob was challenged throughout the night, as crowd noise was a huge factor and a front four of Missouri who put heavy pressure on him.
His stamina and toughness was also challenged, as he had to throw the football 55 times in a game where he was sacked four times, and threw an interception to allocate the lead back to the Tigers.
Though faced with these challenges, it didn’t phase the young quarterback, as he went about business to orchestrate an 80-yard drive to take the lead for good.
Clutch
With the momentum and crowd at their loudest for the Tigers, Eason knew the game would be in his hands facing a 6-point deficit and probably their last shot to win the game.
Of the 11 plays that were called (including a pass interference), nine of them were pass plays where Eason lead the team down and threw the game winning touchdown pass for his third of the night.
It was clutch because Missouri dared him to beat them, and he did just that.
Eason knows they’ll be more big games to come in his career, but exhibiting such traits moving forward will allow Georgia to be even greater then pundits expected.
