Ohio State Signs 5-Star QB Tavien St. Clair

The Early National Signing Period is here and the Ohio State Buckeyes have signed the program’s quarterback of the future. Ryan Day and his staff earned the commitment of Tavien St. Clair on June 21, 2023. Most impressively, they have kept him throughout the process. Coming from Bellefontaine, Ohio, St. Clair has been locked in from day one.

At the time of his commitment, St. Clair was a composite three-star athlete and the 25th-best quarterback in the country. At the same time, he was the 333rd-best overall recruit. Now, he’s the second-best quarterback and second-best overall player in the entire 2025 recruiting class according to 247Sports. St. Clair becomes the first Ohio native to sign with Ohio State at quarterback since Joe Burrow.

Measuring a hair under six-foot-four, the 225-pound quarterback has shown that he has all the tools to succeed at the next level. Despite concerns about competition, St. Clair has developed into a promising quarterback recruit with a bright future.

He broke out as a junior in 2023 with 3,083 yards and 37 touchdowns while completing 70.6 percent of his passes. St. Clair led his Chieftan team to the Region 11 (Division III) finals as a seven seed.  He upset the two and three seeds before ultimately falling to the eventual runners-up. This year, he battled a few injuries but finished with 2,536 yards and 29 touchdowns while completing 68 percent of his passes. On the ground, he added 352 yards and four touchdowns off 36 carries. In 2023 and 254 yards with nine touchdowns off 34 carries.

Physically, he’s incredibly developed with smooth and tight mechanics as a passer. His accuracy is his strength and he has the arm strength to fit the ball into tight windows. While he is not a running quarterback, per se, he has the athleticism to extend plays and get the easy yardage if necessary.

He was a three-sport athlete at Bellefontaine as a stand-out on the basketball and baseball teams.

St. Clair was named to the Navy All-American Bowl roster and was one of the top performers in this summer’s Elite 11 Finals competition. He won the accuracy competition and wowed coaches and scouts with his play in the competition.

He enters a potentially loaded quarterback room. As of this point, St. Clair joins Devin Brown, Lincoln Kienholz, Julian Sayin, and Air Noland as 2025 Ohio State quarterbacks.
