Seven ACC Quarterbacks Are on the O’Brien List

The committee for the Davey O’Brien Award has now moved beyond the initial watch list and gotten to the 35 quarterbacks it calls the class of 2024. Among those listed, seven ACC quarterbacks are on the O’Brien list.

The seven from the ACC give the conference more quarterbacks on the class list than any other conference. The Big 10 and SEC each had six quarterbacks on the list.

The ACC Quarterbacks Who Made the List Are as Follows:

Cade Klubnik, Clemson

Tyler Shough, Louisville

Cam Ward, Miami

Eli Holstein, Pitt

Kevin Jennings, SMU

Kyle McCord, Syracuse

Kyron Drones, Virginia Tech

The Resumes

Ward is second in the country in passing yards with 2,746. Ward, Klubnik, Shough, and McCord are all in the top 10 in the country in passing touchdowns. McCord and Ward are second and third respectively in passing yards per game.

Holstein came on as a surprise this season, winning the ACC Rookie of the Week award five times already this season, leading an equally surprising unbeaten Pitt team.

The entire list of 35 quarterbacks for the class of 2024 is here.

The Voting

For the fifth consecutive year, there will be a fan vote as part of the final decision on the award. Information on the fan vote is available on the award’s Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts. The top five vote-getters on the fan vote will receive bonus points added to the votes cast by the national selection committee.

The award selection committee is 134 people comprised of media members and former award winners. The selection committee can be seen here.

Sixteen semifinalists from the list of 35 will be named on Tuesday, November 12th. Three finalists will be named on Tuesday, November 26th. The winner will be announced on The Home Depot College Football Awards show on Thursday, December 12th.

Last year’s winner was LSU quarterback Jaydn Daniels.

The winner will be honored at a black-tie dinner at the Fort Worth Club in downtown Fort Worth, Texas in February 2025.
