ACC Players of the Week for week 2

ACC Players of the Week for week 2

It was a typically crazy week in ACC land. The new kids from Berkeley went down south to beat a staple of the SEC, Auburn. Meanwhile, a team with high expectations in the ACC, North Carolina State, took a beating, in Charlotte, from Tennessee. When it comes to predicting any week in the ACC, a shrug of the shoulders that says, “Who knows?” is the most appropriate response. But that does not mean we have a shortage of ACC Players of the Week for week 2.

Quarterback of the Week

There are co-quarterbacks of the week this time. Hey, five of the top 10 passing yard quarterbacks in the country are from the ACC, so there are plenty to choose from.

This week, we got Kyle McCord from Syracuse and Cade Klubnik from Clemson. McCord, the transfer from Ohio State, completed 32-of-46 passing attempts for 381 yards and four touchdowns in the win over Georgia Tech. His completions, attempts, and yards were all career highs. He also happens to be third in the country in passing yards.

Klubnik had a massive game against App State. He completed 24-of-26 passes for a career-high 378 yards and five touchdowns, while only playing in the first half against Appalachian State. He also added a pair of rushing touchdowns in the Tigers’ blowout win at home.

Running Back of the Week

Desmond Reid of Pitt is the choice this week. Reid ran for 148 yards on 19 carries, while and caught six passes for 106 yards and a touchdown. He became the first player in Pitt history to compile 100 rushing yards and 100 receiving yards in the same game in the comeback win over Cincinnati.

Receiver of the Week

Pitt also gave us the receiver of the week. Konata Mumpfield had five catches for a game-high 123 receiving yards in the win over the Bearcats.

Offensive Lineman of the Week

Da’Metrius Weatherspoon of Syracuse gets the nod here. The left tackle was the highest-rated offensive lineman for an Orange offense that racked up 515 yards against Georgia Tech.

Defensive Lineman of the Week

Tyler Baron of the Miami Hurricanes is the pick here. He had three sacks and five total tackles. He anchored a Miami defense that held Florida A&M to just 194 yards of total offense, including just 52 rushing yards.

Linebacker of the Week

We have Teddye Buchanan from Cal. He had a team-high 11 tackles, including three tackles-for-loss with two sacks. He also forced a fumble in Cal’s 21-14 road win at Auburn.

Defensive Back of the Week

The Cal Bears are also where we find the defensive back of the week. Nohl Williams intercepted two passes with returns totaling 14 yards. He also had two tackles in the win at Auburn.

Specialist of the Week

Ben Sauls of Pitt had three field goals, including the game-winning 35-yard try with 17 seconds left, to help Pitt in the win over Cincinnati. His other two field goals were from 47 and 53 yards.

Rookie of the Week

Eli Holstein of Pitt wins the spot for the second consecutive week. In the dramatic come-from-behind win over the Bearcats, Holstein was 20-of-35 passing for 302 yards with three touchdowns. He also had 36 rushing yards.
