Rutgers vs Wagner and 2023 Hall of Fame Induction

That’s Amore!

Things are looking good for the Knights but if all else fails, at least their fans can walk away well-fed. This week, Rutgers Athletics is partnering up with Pizza Hut to host “$1 Slice Day”. Through the end of the first quarter, pizza will go for $1 a slice at concession stands that are located inside the stadium. The Rutgers Boardwalk will be hosting its first-ever “Pizza Fest”. Treats like pizza donuts, pizza coffee, and pizza cheesesteaks will line the boardwalk. There will even be a pizza-making class for fans to participate in!

Fans should look out for the special edition “Rutgers Pizza” shirts that will be tossed out during the game.

2023 Inductees

At the half, Rutgers Athletics will be recognizing the 2023 Hall of Fame Class. The actual induction will be taking place the night before. This year’s class consists of the following roster:

Katie Batiuk – Women’s Lacrosse

Jeff Frazier – Baseball

Robert Galbraith – Men’s Swimming and Diving

George Peter Savidge – Men’s Lacrosse

Rita Kay Thomas – Athletic Administrator

The 1976 Football Team

Game Forecast

The Scarlet Knights are coming off of a physical and exhausting loss to Michigan as they roll into this weekend. Going into battle with Wagner (2-2) should look quite different than last week. Last season, Rutgers won this matchup in what was the midst of a 26-game losing streak for Wagner.

Though this isn’t a conference game, it does not mean the Rutgers squad is taking this week as a breather. Earlier this week, we heard from head coach Greg Schiano on this week’s game.

“Trust me, this week our preparation will be as hard as it’s been,”

“Just a little bit harder because that’s what you do each week is you try to out-prepare yourself. We know exactly what we’re walking into and we’ve got to get ready.”

In regards to Wagner’s head coach, Tom Masella, Schiano said, “I’ve known him a long time. He’s a guy when I was breaking into the business, was one of the guys I looked up to, and he’s done a really good job of mixing the portal and high school. So he’s got transfers.”

Aaron Young Is Ready to Go

Aaron Young was a name to get excited about for the 2023 season. However, the beginning of his season took a different turn when he suffered an injury and missed the first three games of the season. Last week, Young made his first 2023 season appearance against the Michigan Wolverines. This week, he’s hungry to contribute to the team’s success in any way possible.

Young felt great about his season return. “It was just exciting to be out there, just being in the moment. I enjoy the process. It’s been a little bit of a journey to get back so it’s exciting to be able to do what I love to do,” Young said earlier this week.

Rutgers’ running back squad has shown a strong performance this year. Their offensive line, however, needs to step up and help protect Young from another injury.

Hopefully, for the Knights, this game will be great for their momentum before heading into another Big Ten matchup. And for Wagner, it’s a great chance to test their skills against a growing team.
