Ohio State Adds EDGE Omari Abor

Ohio State adds recent signee Omari Abor, and Larry Johnson‘s defensive line continues to improve.

Abor is a pass rusher from Duncanville, Texas. According to 247Sports Composite, he was the ninth-best prospect from Texas.

The Buckeyes tend to do better in Texas than they have any right to, and Abor and Caleb Burton, have two of the top players from the Lone Star state. They also are getting Tanner McCalister from Oklahoma State, who was a high school teammate with Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

Abor was the sixth-ranked pass rusher in the nation based on 247Sports Composite’s metrics. This means Ohio State now has three of the top-15 pass rushers in the 2022 class, along with Kenyatta Jackson and Caden Curry.

When Ohio State cleaned house after the Rose Bowl, Johnson was the only defensive to keep his job. The reason why is because of his ability to bring in recruits like Abor to boost Ohio State’s pass rush.

Abor visited LSU and Alabama but signed with the Buckeyes on National Signing Day.

Ohio State Adds EDGE Omari Abor

Ohio State gets another talented pass rusher in Abor.

At 6’4″ and 245 pounds, Abor figures to be slotted in on the right side of Johnson’s defensive line. Like most high school players, he could stand to add a few pounds, though size may not be a hindrance for Abor.

Abor had a variety of moves he could do against opposing offensive linemen and snuck past nearly every time. Combining great hand placement and agility, offensive linemen would already be beaten by the time they put their hands on him.

Thanks to his pure athleticism, he was able to track down running backs behind the line or chase down scrambling quarterbacks.

Johnson likes to have the more undersized EDGE rushers (like Javontae Jean-Baptiste, who was only 215 pounds when he signed) opposite the stronger ends like Zach Harrison and J.T. Tuimoloau.
