Week Six 2020 Heisman Rankings

2022 Week Three Heisman Rankings

The rich get richer. This week we saw the top two teams in the country flex their muscles behind outstanding performance from Trevor Lawrence and Mac Jones. While the narrative of Clemson and Alabama and then everyone else could ring true in the Heisman race as well, this is still an open competition. As the Big 10 kicks off this week, Justin Fields will begin getting some consideration. But, before we get too far ahead of ourselves, let’s look at our week six 2020 Heisman rankings.

Outside the top two, we are developing a bit of a logjam among the leaderboard. There are many questions left to be answered in this football season. Does BYU have enough quality opponents for Zach Wilson to have a legitimate shot? Will running backs Najee Harris and Travis Etienne be able to battle through competing against his own teammates as well as a quarterback bias? We will look to begin answering those questions as we look at the extended leader board in our week six 2020 Heisman rankings.

Top Five Candidates

1. Trevor Lawrence

QB | Clemson                                                                                                                                                     Next Game: 10/24 vs Syracuse

Lawrence proved that he is indeed human after all. He tossed his first interception of the season on Saturday against Georgia Tech. However, that is the only thing that he did wrong. He threw five touchdown passes and over 400 yards as the Tigers dismantled the Yellow Jackets. As scary as Lawrence was last year, he’s improved in every statistical category and is the clear leader at this point.

2. Mac Jones

QB | Alabama                                                                                                                                                 Next Game: 10/24 at Tennessee

Believe it or not, Jones stats are equal and in some categories better than that of Lawrence. Jones has trimmed Lawrence’s lead in large part with his fantastic performance against one of the best defenses in the country. He threw for over 400 yards and four touchdowns against the Bulldogs on Saturday. In order to keep pace with Lawrence, he’ll need to have another terrific performance against the reeling Volunteers on Saturday.

3. Najee Harris

RB | Alabama                                                                                                                                                          Next Game: 10/24 at Tennessee

Harris jumps up two spots this week to number three in our rankings. Much like his partner at quarterback, Harris had an outstanding performance against a dominant defense. Harris ran for 152 yards and a touchdown to bring his total to 11 on the year. Alabama has one of, if not the best offense in the country this year and it shows. Harris will look to continue his success in Tennessee.

4. Zach Wilson

QB | BYU                                                                                                                                                Next Game: 10/24 vs Texas State

Wilson has finally made his way into the top five of our rankings. His numbers are off the chart and are equal to Lawrence and Jones. The biggest stat that jumps off the page is that he is completing nearly 80% of his passes. However, his Heisman chances really have to answer the same question that his BYU team has to answer. Will he have enough quality opponents to give him a chance? For now, he will need to pile up the stats against some of the lesser opponents.

5. Travis Etienne

RB | Clemson                                                                                                                                                Next Game: 10/24 vs Syracuse

Etienne has been all over our rankings this year. He has been as high as second, he’s been off the leaderboard all together, and today lands at number five. Etienne seems to alternate fantastic performances with average days. Unfortunately, for him, Saturday against Georgia Tech was just an average performance. He only rushed for 44 yards and a touchdown. He’ll look to improve that against Syracuse on Saturday.
