Week Five 2020 Heisman Rankings

2022 Week One Heisman Rankings

As we begin getting into the meat of the schedule this season each week will have multiple contests that shape the Heisman race. That was the case as Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne made a statement while D’Eriq King took a step back. However, when you look at a couple of darkhorse quarterbacks in Zach Wilson and Sam Ehlinger, they have every opportunity of getting into the race should any slip-ups occur. Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, let’s look at our week five 2020 Heisman rankings.

Every year we pose the question as to whether this can be the year of the running back. With Etienne and Najee Harris both in the top five, this could be the year. Additionally, don’t count out running backs Breece Hall and Chuba Hubbard from also inserting themselves in the race. Now, let’s unveil our week five 2020 Heisman rankings.

Top Five Candidates

1. Trevor Lawrence

QB | Clemson                                                                                                                                                     Next Game: 10/17 at Georgia Tech

The Tigers were presented with another challenge with Miami coming to town last weekend and Clemson dominated. Lawrence was a big reason for that in throwing for 293 yards and three touchdowns through the air and another on the ground. He is continuing to make it look too easy in completing over 72% of his passes without turning the ball over once.

2. Mac Jones

QB | Alabama                                                                                                                                                 Next Game: 10/17 vs Georgia

Jones is quickly making everyone in Tuscaloosa forget about Tua Tagovaiola. The Tide offense has not missed a beat, especially this week in putting up 63 points on Ole Miss. His numbers are right there with Lawrence’s thus far in the season even with one less game. However, Jones and the Tide will have their biggest challenge with facing Georgia this weekend in the biggest game of the weekend.

3. Kyle Trask

QB | Florida                                                                                                                                                 Next Game: 10/24 vs Missouri

It’s a good news/bad news situation for Trask and the Gators. The good news is that Trask has been nearly flawless in three games throwing 14 touchdowns against just one interception. Additionally, the Gators defense appears to be quite poor which will require the Gators to air it out often. The bad news is that with Florida having a Covid outbreak, their game against LSU this weekend has been postponed. And, the game on October 24th is in serious jeopardy as well.

4. Travis Etienne

RB | Clemson                                                                                                                                                Next Game: 10/17 at Georgia Tech

As good as Lawrence has been, Etienne was the best player on the field Saturday for Clemson. He had 149 yards rushing with two touchdown runs. However, he also had eight catches for 73 yards through the air. There’s little debate that the Tigers have the best quarterback and the best running back in the country. From a Heisman perspective, the only thing going against either of these two is stealing votes from each other.

5. Najee Harris

RB | Alabama                                                                                                                                                          Next Game: 10/17 vs Georgia

Against Ole Miss, on Saturday night, Harris enjoyed his best game in an Alabama uniform. He had 206 yards and five touchdowns in a performance that has landed him in the top five this week. But, he’ll have to earn his keep so to speak against Georgia. The Bulldogs have given up a total of 105 yards on the ground in three games. If Harris has a big game, we could see him go up on this list next week.
