Spread the love

Our fourth full week of action saw many more upsets that impacted the Heisman race. Losses impacted Spencer Rattler, Sam Ehlinger, and K.J. Costello as all three plummeted out of this week’s rankings. However, that has opened the door for some surprising, first-time entries into this week’s poll.  Let’s look at all of the changes in our week four 2020 Heisman rankings.

In the period of upsets, our top three has a sizable lead over the field? Top Five Candidates

1. Trevor Lawrence

QB | Clemson                                                                                                                                                     Next Game: 10/10 vs Miami

Lawrence had another fantastic performance in the Tigers home conference opener of the season against Virginia on Saturday night. The Heisman frontrunner threw for over 300 yards with three more touchdowns through the air. Now, Lawrence and the Tigers face their biggest test of the season as the Canes come calling. This could be the biggest Heisman matchup we have in the regular season this season.

2. Kyle Trask

QB | Florida                                                                                                                                               Next Game: 10/10 at Texas A&M

The Gators offense stayed hot in their second game of the season behind Trask’s four-touchdown performance against South Carolina. Florida called the dogs off in the fourth quarter against the Gamecocks, but Trask still three for over 260 yards and has found a favorite target in Kyle Pitts. Trask will face a desperate Texas A&M team that is looking to avoid going 1-2 on the season in College Station.

3. D’Eriq King

QB | Miami                                                                                                                                                 Next Game: 10/10 at Clemson

King and the Hurricanes offense are clicking on all cylinders. He led Miami on touchdown drives on six of his seven possessions as they rolled over Florida State last Saturday. The senior had over 300 yards of total offense in just over two and a half quarters of play. The Hurricanes have a monumental early season game at Clemson on October 10th that could determine the fate of the ACC, the College Football Playoffs, and of course the Heisman Trophy.

Buechele comes into this week ranked number four due to his big win over Memphis on Saturday. The fifth year senior threw for 474 yards and three touchdowns in the big American Athletic Conference win. He has the Mustangs looking like the top team in the conference and one of the best Group of Five teams in the country. The Mustangs have this week off before facing Tulane next week in New Orleans.

Alabama is turning into quite the Quarterback factory of late. Now, it’s Jones turn to take the reigns. It’s not bad for a guy that many weren’t sure if he would be the starter, let alone a Heisman contender. Jones turned in an incredible performance against Texas A&M on Saturday as he threw for 435 yards and four touchdowns. Look for Jones to have similar success as the Tide travel to Oxford to face Ole Miss on Saturday.
