Oklahoma Sooners All-Decade Best Wins

We continue in our all-decade series today as we look at some of the top Sooner victories over the last 10 years. But, before that, if you missed our Sooner All-Decade Offensive and Defensive teams we have them recapped here. Now, we go from 15 to one as we look at the Oklahoma Sooners all-decade best wins.

15) Oklahoma 47 Oklahoma State 41, 2010

The Cowboys came into this game as the higher-ranked team as both teams were looking for the final Big 12 championship game appearance as a 12 member league. But, the right arm of Landry Jones proved to be too much. He threw for 468 yards and three touchdowns to give Oklahoma a six-point victory and a date with Nebraska in the Big 12 championship game.

14) Oklahoma 66 Texas Tech 59, 2016

Depending on your perspective, this could be one of the best games or the worst in the decade. We chose to pick this one just for the sheer eye-popping numbers. Baker Mayfield threw for 545 yards and seven touchdowns. Joe Mixon had 377 all-purpose yards and five touchdowns of his own as the Sooners were able to just stay one step ahead of Patrick Mahomes and his 734 yards passing.

13) Oklahoma 51 Oklahoma State 48, 2012

Jones found himself having some of his best games against Oklahoma State. In this one, he threw for 500 yards and three touchdowns. However, a Blake Bell touchdown run with four seconds remaining sent the game into overtime. Then, after a Cowboy field goal, an 18-yard touchdown run by Brennan Clay gave the Sooners the epic 51-48 win.

12) Oklahoma 39 Texas 27, 2018

Oklahoma was looking for a little payback in the Big 12 Championship Game. Texas outlasted the Sooners earlier in the year in Dallas with a three-point win. But, it would be Oklahoma that got the final word in. Kyler Murray cemented his Heisman claim with a 379 yard, three-touchdown performance. However, the biggest momentum-changing play came from a Tre Brown sack of Sam Ehlinger in the end zone to allow a late touchdown to seal the win.

11) Oklahoma 34 Baylor 31, 2019

Arguably, this game could be ranked a bit higher. However, we ranked it here due to the abysmal first-half performance that found the Sooners behind 28-3 at one point. But, the biggest comeback in program history ripped victory from the jaws of defeat. Jalen Hurts played his best half of football in a Sooner uniform with over 400 yards of total offense. And, a Nik Bonitto interception sealed the deal.

10) Oklahoma 55, Texas 17, 2011

Many times a blowout win against your biggest rival is the games that we remember. And, in this rendition of the Red River Showdown Oklahoma’s defense outscored Texas 21-17. However, the offense was just as prolific in putting up 34 points and totaling 453 yards of offense in the rout.

9) Oklahoma 62 Oklahoma State 52, 2017

The Sooners knew that it was going to be a shootout against the high-powered Oklahoma State offense of Mason Rudolph, Justice Hill, and James Washington. Oklahoma was up to the task with 785 yards of offense and 62 points. Marquise Brown paced the Sooners with 265 yards receiving and a couple of touchdowns. Meanwhile, with 598 yards passing, this performance ultimately won the Heisman for Mayfield.

8) Oklahoma 35 Notre Dame 21, 2013

The Sooners had payback on their mind as the traveled to South Bend to take on the Irish. And, that’s exactly what they got. Oklahoma raced out to a 14-0 lead just three minutes into the contest. However, the Irish rallied to a 27-21 deficit for Notre Dame in the fourth quarter. But, a Sterling Shepard 54-yard touchdown reception proved to be the difference.

7) Oklahoma 63 Texas 21, 2012

As bad as it was for Texas in 2011, the 42-point thrashing that they took in 2012 was worse. Bell scored four times, Damien Williams scored on a 95-yard touchdown run and the Sooners had 677 yards of total offense for Oklahoma in a dominating effort.

6) Oklahoma 44 Baylor 34, 2015

After being outside of the national conversation for the past few years, this game would officially announce Oklahoma was back. Mayfield hit Dimitri Flowers to give the Sooners a late 10-point lead and would later cement it with an interception. The Sooners ended Baylor’s 20-game winning streak with the win which ultimately catapulted Oklahoma into the College Football Playoffs.

5) Oklahoma 23 Florida State 13, 2011

This game was built as the biggest non-conference game of the season as the top-ranked Sooners went into Tallahassee to face fifth-ranked Seminoles. Oklahoma’s defense was once again stifling in holding Florida State to less than 250 yards of total offense as well as forcing three turnovers. The dagger was a Jones 37-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Stills to give the Sooners a fourth-quarter lead that they would not relinquish.

4) Oklahoma 31 Tennessee 24, 2015

This was the biggest evidence of Sooner magic in our top five. The Sooners were struggling immensely on offense only managing three points in three and a half quarters. But, then the offense came alive. Baker Mayfield willed the Sooners back with two touchdown passes in the final eight minutes. But, the win was sealed with a Zack Sanchez interception in double overtime for the incredible win.

3) Oklahoma 23 Nebraska 20, 2010

The final game as conference members between these two stories rivals lived up to its games from the past. Oklahoma dug itself a big hole as the Cornhuskers built a 17-0 lead early in the second quarter. But, the Sooner defense forced four Nebraska turnovers to help allow the offense to do just enough to get a 23-20 win.

2) Oklahoma 31, Ohio State 16, 2017

The Plant the Flag game gave the Sooners some national respect as Oklahoma defeated the Buckeyes at the Horseshoe, 31-16. Mayfield threw for 386 yards and three touchdowns as the Sooners scored 21 straight second-half points to take a commanding lead. This win, in part, helped the Sooners get to their second playoff appearance in two years.

1) Oklahoma 45 Alabama 31, 2013

It’s doubtful that you’ll receive much argument here. The finish to the 2013 season could be considered the most improbable two-game performance of the decade. Trevor Knight had the best game of his Sooner career in throwing for 348 yards and four touchdowns. But, the biggest play of the game was a strip-sack of Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron by Eric Striker which was returned by Geneo Grissom to preserve the Oklahoma victory.
