The game of the year thus far gave us exactly what we thought it would. It made the Heisman picture a little more clear. Joe Burrow solidified his top spot with a nearly perfect outing in the win. Meanwhile, Tua Tagovailoa cemented himself back in the race in recovering after a slow start. But, was it enough to get him back into the top two? Let’s see where the changes were in our week 11 2019 Heisman rankings.

At this point in the season, it almost feels like it’s Burrows Heisman to lose. However, let’s not forget that Kyler Murray won the Heisman in the last week of the season after Tagovailoa’s injury in the SEC Championship Game. Justin Fields had a cakewalk against Maryland and Jalen Hurts had an up and down game against Iowa State. But, with those two jockeying for position, how do they fall in the pecking order? And, we have two running backs fighting for a spot. Will we have a new entry into the top five. Now, without further adieux, let’s unveil our week 11 2019 Heisman rankings?

Top Five Candidates

1. Joe Burrow

QB | LSU                                                      Next Game: 11/16 at Ole Miss

Burrow was incredible and further distanced himself in this race with a near-flawless performance against Alabama. He passed for nearly 400 yards, threw three touchdown passes, and led LSU to 46 points against the Tide. Now, Burrow and the Tigers must guard against a letdown as they travel to Oxford to face Ole Miss.

2. Tua Tagovailoa

QB | Alabama                                                           Next Game: 11/16 at Mississippi State

It was clear that Tagovailoa was a bit rusty out of the gate. And, that was partially why Alabama was in such a big hole at the half. But, he lit up the Tigers defense for 418 yards and four touchdowns. Even though he’s behind Burrow, he has certainly proclaimed himself as back in the thick of this race. Now, it remains to be seen if Tagovailoa can rally the Tide back into the playoff hunt as well as the Heisman race.

3. Jalen Hurts

QB | Oklahoma                                                      Next Game: 11/16 at Baylor

It was a tale of two halves for Hurts and the Sooners. Hurts combined for five touchdowns and the Sooners were hitting on all cylinders in scoring 35 first-half points. However, he only threw for 41 yards and threw an interception as Oklahoma hung on for the one-point win. Hurts decision making was extremely poor on Saturday as he threw three balls outside of the interception right into defender’s hands and was fortunate to just turn the ball over once. The offense will need to be more consistent in what now looks to be the game of the year in the Big 12 against Baylor.

4. Justin Fields

QB | Ohio State                                                      Next Game: 11/16 at Rutgers

As was predicted, Fields made quick work of the Terrapins on Saturday. For the second time this season, the Buckeye offense put 70 points on the board. Fields accounted for four total touchdowns in the first half in the dominating performance. One of the only things that is hurting Fields is the lack of a Heisman moment. In fact, Ohio State has not been challenged this year which is evidenced by their closest game being a 24-point margin. That should change in the coming weeks with games against Penn State and Michigan. But, for now, look for another cakewalk for Fields against Rutgers.

5. Chuba Hubbard

RB | Oklahoma State                                                      Next Game: 11/16 vs Kansas

Hubbard makes his initial appearance in our top five as the nation’s leading rusher. He’s had a complete season in his first year as the full-time running back in Stillwater. With games against Kansas, West Virginia, and Oklahoma he’s a near-lock to surpass 2,000 yards and 20 touchdowns. He won’t win the Heisman, but he certainly deserves an invite to New York.
