Week Six 2019 Heisman Rankings

2022 Week Three Heisman Rankings

We continue to see some jockeying for position in our top five this week, but as a whole, we continued with our same top five. The biggest winner this week was Jonathan Taylor as he moved from fifth to third by virtue of his five-touchdown performance on Saturday. Let’s look at the other movement in our week six 2019 Heisman rankings.

This week we have two huge games in college football that looks to dramatically impact the Heisman vote next week. Jalen Hurts and Joe Burrow each have opportunities for statement games as the Sooners face Texas in the annual Red River Rivalry and LSU hosts the ever-improving Florida Gators on Saturday night in Baton Rouge. Now, let’s see how the shuffling finished in our week six 2019 Heisman rankings.

3 Jonathan Taylor RB 62
4 Joe Burrow QB 53
5 Justin Fields QB 46
6 Sam Ehlinger QB 2
7 Trevor Lawrence QB 2

Top Five Candidates

1. Tua Tagovailoa

QB | Alabama                                                           Next Game: 10/12 at Texas A&M

Tagovailoa was able to strengthen his lead while on a bye last week. He returns to action this week to face Texas A&M in College Station. The Aggies have been a little underwhelming thus far this year but do possess the talent in the back end to provide a challenge for the Alabama offense.

2. Jalen Hurts

QB | Oklahoma                                                      Next Game: 10/12 vs Texas

Even with the 42 point effort and four total touchdowns, this was Hurts poorest performance of the season. The senior threw his second interception and threw another into the hands of a defender that was dropped. Expect a much better performance this week for Hurts with the entire nation watching the Red River Showdown against Texas.

3. Jonathan Taylor

RB | Wisconsin                                                      Next Game: 10/05 vs Kent State

Taylor keeps his yo-yo Heisman campaign consistent as he moves back up to third place in this week’s rankings. He has earned it this week with five total touchdowns against Kent State. Barring injury, by seasons end Taylor will be in the top 10 in rushing yardage for his career. This week gets tougher as Michigan State comes to Madison.

4. Joe Burrow

QB | LSU                                                      Next Game: 10/12 vs Florida

For the second straight game, Burrow accounted for six total touchdowns for the Tigers. LSU has reached the 40-point mark in each game this season thanks to Burrow. Now, that will be difficult this week as LSU faces its toughest defensive opponent by a long shot when the Florida Gators come calling.

5. Justin Fields

QB | Ohio State                                                      Next Game: 10/18 at Northwestern

Ohio State continued to show the nation why they might be the most complete team in college football. Fields is a big reason for that. He continued his impressive play against an outstanding defense while accounting for four touchdowns against the Spartans. The Buckeyes have the weekend off before heading to Northwestern for a Friday night game.
