UCLA Gets Michael Martinez From Mater Dei

UCLA got the rare signing from Mater Dei High School Wednesday when tight end Michael Martinez followed through on his verbal commitment and signed his letter of intent.

UCLA Gets Michael Martinez

Martinez is 6-6, 246 pounds. He already has a big tight end body while he is still growing. He is ranked as the #16 tight end in the country by the 247Sport composite. Rivals has him as #9. He had 16 offers, including Alabama, LSU, Michigan, Nebraska, and USC. He only took one official visit and it was to UCLA.  He committed to the Bruins last Summer and has never really wavered.

He is already advanced as a blocker and has strong hands. His size will be interesting. Can he maintain tight end flexibility as he continues to grow? Or will his body development mandate a position change? As UCLA returns multiple experienced tight ends in 2019, they have time to work with Martinez.
