UCLA Gets Ath Carl Jones

UCLA got their official paperwork from high-end athlete Carl Jones from Bakersfield High School.

At 6-1, 195, Jones played both receiver and defensive back at Bakersfield, so he is listed as an athlete in terms of recruiting. But defensive backs coach Paul Rhoads headed the recruiting efforts for the Bruins, so it is likely Jones will get a first look at safety or cornerback in camp.

Jones ran for 296 yards and six touchdowns and caught 24 passes for 589 yards for seven touchdowns last season. On defense, he added 66 tackles, and three tackles for loss. Just for good measure he also punted for Bakersfield, averaging just over 35 yards per kick.

Jones was originally committed to Colorado prior to head coach Mike MacIntyre and his staff being fired last month. When Jones opened up his recruiting, he first had a one-one meeting with Bruins head coach Chip Kelly. From there, it was Rhoads managing the recruiting process. Jones said staying close to home became a big factor for his family. He announced his commitment late last week on his twitter account.

The 247Sports composite lists as the 116th overall athlete in the country.
