Ohio, San Diego State battle in DXL Frisco Bowl

DXL Frisco Bowl

2018 DXL Frisco Bowl

The Ohio Bobcats and San Diego State Aztecs are set to do battle in the second edition of the DXL Frisco Bowl at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas.

This match-up will feature Ohio’s high-potent offense against the Aztec’s strong defense.

Ohio Bobcats (8-4, 6-2 Mid-American Conference)

Ohio’s strength and backbone is their offense. Led by quarterback Nathan Rourke and A.J. Ouellette, the Bobcats have averaged 470.6 yards per game this season, 261.9 on the ground, 208.7 through the air. They have been able to score 41.2 points per game. Moving the ball and punching it into the end zone is easy for the Bobcats as they have only failed to come away with points in the red zone eight times this season.

On the contrary, the Bobcat defense is less than impressive as they give up 399.6 yards per game. 263.8 through the air and 135.8 on the ground.

The Bobcats also give up 26.7 points per game.

For head coach Frank Solich and Ohio to be successful against San Diego State, they need to bring the noise early on. They can do that with an early turnover or a defensive touchdown. The offense needs to hold up its end of the bargain too. They need to be ready for the Aztec defense and play the way they have all season.

San Diego State Aztecs (7-5, 4-4 Mountain West)

The Aztecs jumped out to a 6-1 start after losing to Stanford to kick off the season. They got there with a stout defense led by linebacker Kyahva Tezino.

SDSU’s defense was the reason for their hot start. During the regular season. They allowed 327.4 yards per game with 94.5 coming on the ground and 232.92 through the air.

On the other side of the ball, quarterbacks Ryan Agnew and Christian Chapman have been taking turns manning the helm for the Aztecs. The offense itself has been slow but effective, only gaining 354 yards per game with 162.4 rushing and 191.58 passing.

For the Aztecs to be successful in this game, they need to be ready to play on both sides of the ball. The offense needs to have one of its best games of the season, and the defense needs to be as strong as it has this season.

Prediction

The Aztec defense and the Bobcat offense are no doubt the strongest units for their teams. The question is the Aztec offense and Bobcat defense, and which one will be stronger. The Bobcat’s defense is going to step up and make a play early on to swing momentum in their favor. Likewise, the combination of Rourke and Ouellete will be strong and will be able to poke holes in the Aztec defense and win this game comfortably.

Score prediction: 31-24, Ohio.
