Week 11 Heisman Rankings

2022 Final Heisman rankings

The Thanksgiving holiday is less than a week away. Not only does that mean turkey, stuffing, and all the trimmings, but it also means the college football season is drawing to a close. However, our Heisman contenders still have a few weeks left to prove themselves. Our top five remained intact, however, some feel that Tua Tagovailoa’s dominant lead is growing thinner each week. His health remains a concern as the Tide entertain The Citadel this weekend. Comparatively, Will Grier and Kyler Murray continue to apply pressure on Tagovailoa.  Now, how does the rest of the field shake out in our week 11 Heisman rankings?

Gardner Minshew and Travis Etienne may not have a significant Heisman moment opportunity remaining. With Clemson facing Duke and South Carolina to end the regular season and a likely matchup against Pitt in the ACC championship game, a top 25 matchup won’t happen. Minshew will have a better opportunity in a couple of weeks in the Apple Cup. A win in that game would not only send Washington State to the PAC 12 Championship game but would also secure an invite to New York for Minshew. Now, let’s look at the complete breakdown as we dive right into our week 11 Heisman rankings.

Top Five Candidates

1. Tua Tagovailoa

QB | Alabama                                                    Next Game: 11/17 vs The Citadel

Tagovailoa doubled his interception output for the season with one against Mississippi State. Also, health must be a concern for the Tide. Although it was minor, Tagovailoa went down for the third time this season with an injury. He should get the opportunity to get healthy with the Tide hosting The Citadel on Saturday.

2. Will Grier

QB | West Virginia                                                    Next Game: 11/17 at Oklahoma State

Grier started to slow against TCU, but he along with the Mountaineers finished strong. The Mountaineers are in the midst of a playoff push which must go through the state of Oklahoma. West Virginia travels to Stillwater to face the upset-minded Cowboys before hosting Oklahoma the day after Thanksgiving.

3. Kyler Murray

QB | Oklahoma                                                     Next Game: 11/17 vs Kansas

Believe it or not, Murray is on pace to shatter Baker Mayfield’s single-season passing efficiency record. He’s needed every bit of that to overshadow a struggling defense. He only accounted for one touchdown but accounted for over 400 yards of total offense against the Cowboys in Bedlam. Murray figures to have another big day on Saturday as the Sooners welcome Kansas in the final home game of the season.

4. Travis Etienne

RB | Clemson                                                      Next Game: 11/17 vs Duke

The Tigers struggled a little bit offensively on Saturday against Boston College. However, Etienne was able to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark on the season. Clemson has favorable matchups to finish the year, so a 1,400-yard season is certainly attainable for Etienne.

5. Gardner Minshew

Minshew was flawless against Colorado on Saturday. After spotting the Buffaloes the first seven points, Washington State dominated en route to a 31-7 win. The Cougars have a favorable matchup this weekend as they host Arizona who is fighting for bowl eligibility.
