2022 Week Three Heisman Rankings

Last Word on College Football Heisman Rankings

Well, you can’t say this group didn’t make the most of their opportunities. The usual suspects had great ends to their regular seasons this past weekend. Saquon Barkley and Lamar Jackson each had solid performances in big wins for their programs. Rashaad Penny joined the 2,000-yard club and Quinton Flowers nearly came up with a program-defining win for the ages. And, Kerryon Johnson had a huge game in defeating Alabama in the Iron Bowl. How will those performances have a lasting affect our 2017 Heisman rankings this week?

One chance. One shining moment. One more opportunity. Baker Mayfield and Bryce Love will have one last chance to impress the voters on championship weekend. Mayfield holds a king-size lead but must again face one of the best defenses in the country as the Sooners face TCU in the Big 12 Championship Game. On the other side of the country, it’s amazing what Love has been able to do on one and a half ankles. Will a great game against USC in the PAC 12 Championship Game give the voters something to think about?

After serving his first series suspension, Mayfield picked apart the West Virginia defense. He will try to duplicate his outstanding first-half performance against TCU on Saturday for the second time.

You run out of adjectives to describe Love each week. His perseverance has carried Stanford to a date with the Trojans in the PAC 12 Championship. Love rushed for 160 yards in the week two loss.

Jackson had an outstanding performance in his final game of the season against Kentucky. He was able to exact some revenge of one of his worst games a season ago to lead the Cardinals to a dominating win.

I firmly believe if Penny played for another school that had a little more of the national spotlight, he would be number two in our rankings. Be that as it may, Penny has hit the 2,000-yard mark this season.

The end of the season has not been kind to both Penn State and Barkley. But, like the team, Barkley has bounced back well over the last couple of weeks. Based on how he started, Barkley should at least get an invite to New York.
