Last Word on College Football Heisman Rankings (Week Six)

2022 Week Three Heisman Rankings

Last Word on College Football Heisman Rankings

Is this the year of the running back? It certainly appears that could be the pace with so many making our Heisman rankings. A Quarterback has taken home the hardware more times than not. Mostly, because they have more opportunities with the ball in their hands. The Heisman has been awarded to a non-running back 15 out of the last 20 years. However, with the abundance of talent at that position, this year could be different.

Last week saw some injuries hit the position. Two of the top six in our rankings a week ago was injured. Both Bryce Love and Jonathan Taylor were impacted. Love did not play in Stanford’s win over Oregon State. Whereas, Taylor went out in the first half of Wisconsin’s victory over 24-10 triumph over Illinois. We have two new entries into our top five this week. On the heels of the first College Football Playoff rankings, let’s see the shakeup of our Heisman rankings.

Top Five Candidates

1. Saquon Barkley

RB | Penn State                       Next Game: 11/04 At Michigan State

Barkley was once again in the spotlight as Penn State took on Ohio State. Barkley had an electric kickoff return for a touchdown as well as a 36-yard touchdown run. However, take that run away and he had 20 carries that netted eight yards. He keeps the lead for now, but he needs a big week.

RB | Stanford                      Next Game: 11/04 At Washington State

Love may have done more with a week off than he could have done by playing. His presence or lack thereof was clearly noticed. The Cardinal needed a late touchdown pass to escape Corvallis with a win over one of the worst teams in the PAC 12.

3. Baker Mayfield

QB | Oklahoma                      Next Game: 11/04 At Oklahoma State

Mayfield has been a picture of consistency this year. While he didn’t have the total yards that he did a week ago, Mayfield accounted for five total touchdowns against Texas Tech. The game of the week is in Stillwater for the annual Bedlam matchup where Mayfield can make his move.

4. J.T. Barrett

QB | Ohio State                           Next Game: 11/04 At Iowa

Barrett might be the hottest Quarterback in the nation right now. After his blistering fourth quarter in which he went 13 for 13 and saved the Ohio State season, he finds himself fourth in our rankings.

Like the Fighting Irish, Adams has exploded on the scene in 2017. Adams broke the game open with a 77-yard touchdown jaunt in the second half to give Notre Dame a 35-14 victory.
