Minnesota Ends Boycott, Will Play In Bowl Game

ESPN’s Mark Schlabach is reporting that Minnesota’s football players have ended their boycott of football activities and will play in the National Funding Holiday Bowl on December 27.

Minnesota Ends Boycott, Will Play In Bowl Game

Overnight talks with athletic director Mark Coyle and university president Eric Kaler were apparently productive, although no terms of them are known. Players announced the boycott earlier this week, after ten of their teammates were suspended in relation to a sexual assault case dating back to September. Four of the players had served a three-game suspension at the time and were reinstated when the Hennepin County sheriff’s office decided not to file charges. Those four players and one other were also named in a restraining order against the victim. Earlier this week, it was announced that those five players as well as five others would be suspended by the university.

Northern Illionois was set to replace the Golden Gophers had they carried out their boycott.

LWOS will have updates on this breaking story as available.
