It should be an entertaining final day at ATP Santiago with Luciano Darderi set to take on Yannick Hanfmann for the title in the Chilean capital. The surface is about to change for both men as they head to Indian Wells for the first leg of the Sunshine Double, but both will no doubt be determined to head to California with momentum on their side. As ever, we here at LWOT will be offering our prediction for the final, but who will come out on top?

Luciano Darderi vs Yannick Hanfmann

Darderi, the second seed at ATP Santiago, opened his campaign with a hard-fought win over Mariano Navone after a first-round bye. After overcoming the Argentine 6-3 4-6 6-4, he got the better of his countryman Andrea Pelligrino to book his spot in the semifinals, though he was again extended to three sets. But in what looked like his toughest assignment of the week in the last four, he beat the fourth seed Sebastian Baez in straight sets to reach his second final of the Golden Swing in South America after finishing as runner-up in Buenos Aires.
Tasked with stopping Darderi winning a fifth title from six finals is Hanfmann, who is still searching for his first title at this level after defeats in Gstaad in 2017 and Kitzbuhel in 2020. The German has not quite kicked on in the intervening years, and still plays much of tennis at the Challenger level. But he has impressed in the altitude at ATP Santiago, beating Dusan Lajovic, Camilo Ugo Carabelli, Vilius Gaubus, and Franciso Cerundolo to reach the final, losing just one set in the process.
Hanfmann should be feeling confident heading into this match, but it will be surely a concern in the German’s camp that Darderi has won both of their previous matches relatively comfortably. They didn’t play last season, but time is probably not Hanfmann’s friend given that Darderi continues to improve. At his best, Hanfmann is good enough to make a match of this and maybe even win if he is at his very best, but Darderi is the more consistent and probably the better player nine times out of ten. The Italian should have the edge.
