Carlos Alcaraz’s Coaching Shake-Up: Surprise Name Set for Prominent Role After Ferrero Split

In one of the most shocking tennis stories of the year, Carlos Alcaraz has decided to part ways with long-time coach Juan Carlos Ferrero. The news came as a complete shock to everyone, as there had been no sign of tension between the two following Alcaraz’s most successful season to date in 2025, which saw him win eight titles and finish the year ranked as the No.1 player in the world.

Not only were fans and the media stunned by the announcement, but Ferrero himself appeared to be caught off guard. In a heartfelt social-media message, he said I would have liked to continue,” while reflecting on the memories of what had become one of the standout coach-player partnerships of the decade.

Lopez Takes Over — But a Mystery Figure Enters the Frame

Attention now turns to who will replace Ferrero on Alcaraz’s team. For the moment, Samuel Lopez, formerly Alcaraz’s second coach behind Ferrero, has taken full charge of the World No.1’s programme. Lopez was present throughout the 2025 season, overseeing title runs in Rotterdam, Monte-Carlo, and Queen’s Club while serving as the lone coach in Alcaraz’s box.

But intriguingly, a new name has emerged in reports from Spain regarding who may take on a larger role after Ferrero’s departure: Alvaro Alcaraz, the World No.1’s brother. Alvaro has previously travelled as a hitting partner and is someone Alcaraz trusts completely, having been with him on Tour all around the world since Alcaraz first turned professional.

It remains unclear whether a new external coach will eventually fill the vacancy left by Ferrero. Without doubt, coaches around the world will be watching closely and polishing their resumes should Alcaraz look for another guiding voice. For now, though, the responsibility lies with Lopez and Alvaro Alcaraz, who will divide the added workload on their shoulders after a stunning coaching announcement that has reshaped the World No.1’s inner circle.

About Zain Mustafa

Being brought up in a sports-watching home, some of the spheres flying across the TV screen stuck with me more than others, the yellow fuzzy one probably the most. A lefty Mallorcan got me into it, a righty Murcian has kept me in it after him, but to be honest, once I was in, I never felt like leaving anyway.
