The ATP 500 event in Vienna is down to its final four, featuring two compelling semifinal matchups. The indoor conditions have rewarded aggressive ball-striking all week, setting the stage for another thrilling day of action. As always, we here at LWOT are offering our predictions for both the semifinal matches taking place at the Wiener Stadthalle.
ATP Vienna Semifinal Predictions
Alexander Zverev vs Lorenzo Musetti
Head-to-head: Zverev 1–3 Musetti
This is a matchup between two Top 8 players who have had contrasting seasons. Alexander Zverev has had one of his worst seasons since becoming a top player, while Lorenzo Musetti has enjoyed the best of his young career so far. Indoor hard courts are a surface that you would think favors the big-serving German more, but the only match these two have played on such a surface was actually won by the Italian at the same venue last year.
Musetti’s chip return, backhand variety, and movement have caused Zverev plenty of trouble in this matchup recently, something he will once again look to use. While it is true that if the German finds his rhythm on serve, a fast indoor court gives him a high floor level, the Italian is the more confident player right now. Given his recent success in this matchup, he should once again have just a bit more than his German rival.

Jannik Sinner vs Alex de Minaur
Head-to-head: Sinner 11–0 de Minaur
The modern-day Djokovic vs Monfils matchup on the ATP Tour. This will be their 12th meeting so far, with the Italian winning all of them up to now. Alex de Minaur is a baseliner known for his complete game, which includes solid groundstrokes off both wings, a great return, and incredible endurance and stamina. The problem for him is that Jannik Sinner does all of those things too, but at a higher and more efficient level. That has not only resulted in a lopsided head-to-head record but also matches that have rarely been close, with the Aussie having won just two of the 27 sets in this rivalry so far.
One of those came in their last meeting, in Beijing, where de Minaur had to absolutely redline for an hour, use more variety than usual, and still rely on some uncharacteristic mistakes by the Italian. Even then, the match never looked out of Sinner’s control. I expect him to be even more composed here, as this matchup once again highlights how tough it is for de Minaur to consistently threaten him, likely leading to another comfortable outing for the Italian.
