The last two quarterfinal matches at the ATP Shanghai Masters will be contested on Friday. We have two strong matches ahead of us after the other side of the draw set up an interesting semifinal (more on that later). Novak Djokovic will be in that match, which means he isn’t playing on Friday. Who else do you think will reach the semifinals? We share our thoughts on both matches.
ATP Shanghai Quarterfinal Predictions
Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Arthur Rinderknech
What a tournament for Rinderknech. The Frenchman is finally showing the potential so many of us saw in him years ago. He has upset three straight seeded players, including Alexander Zverev. Unfortunately, this is probably where the ride ends. Felix Auger-Aliassime has won both of their career meetings, and I expect that to continue in this one. The Canadian is also playing excellent tennis, and he has both more raw firepower and more all-around variety to his game than Rinderknech has. “FAA” to move on to the semifinals in China.
Prediction: Auger-Aliassime in 2
Daniil Medvedev vs Alex de Minaur
This pair has met 11 times before, with Medvedev winning seven of the matches. More importantly, the Russian has won the last three on hard courts. Most importantly, though, is how well he has been playing this event. He looks mostly like his vintage self. And while the Australian is playing some of the best tennis of his career, this is a horrible matchup for him when Medvedev is playing his game. There’s just not much he can do against the Russian’s counterpunching.
