Carlos Alcaraz Withdraws From Shanghai Masters

Carlos Alcaraz has officially pulled out of the Rolex Shanghai Masters, citing the need to rest and recover after a physically demanding stretch of the season. Having already played over 70 tour matches this year, the Spaniard shared the news with his fans in a heartfelt statement.

Alcaraz Withdraws From Shanghai Masters

Alcaraz’s Statement

“I’m very disappointed to announce that I won’t be able to play the Rolex Shanghai Masters this year! Unfortunately, I’ve been struggling with some physical issues and, after discussing with my team, we believe the best decision is to rest and recover. I was really looking forward to playing in front of the amazing fans in Shanghai again. I hope to be back soon and see my Chinese fans next year!”

2025 Season

The announcement comes hours after Alcaraz lifted the trophy at the Tokyo Open, clinching his eighth title of 2025. The victory also marked his 67th win of the season, both personal bests in a single year.

Alcaraz made the quarterfinals in Shanghai last year, but his withdrawal this time comes in the middle of what has already been a historic 2025 campaign. The Spaniard has reached nine consecutive Tour-level finals after his run in Tokyo, a feat achieved only by the legendary trio of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic since 1990.

While the Shanghai withdrawal is a setback for fans eager to see him in action, it does not spell the end of his season. Alcaraz is scheduled to return at the King’s Slam Six Kings event in Riyadh (October 15–18), with more official tournaments still to come before the year’s end.

About Zain Mustafa

Being brought up in a sports-watching home, some of the spheres flying across the TV screen stuck with me more than others, the yellow fuzzy one probably the most. A lefty Mallorcan got me into it, a righty Murcian has kept me in it after him, but to be honest, once I was in, I never felt like leaving anyway.
