ATP Chengdu Day 1 Predictions Including Cameron Norrie vs Yi Zhou

The Asian hard court swing is underway with tournaments in China having always been very competitive. The ATP Chengdu Open 2025 edition promises to be another action packed week with an exciting crop of players in the draw. As ever, we preview and predict all scheduled matches for you.

ATP Chengdu Day 1 Predictions

Quentin Halys vs Christopher O’Connell

Head-to-head – First Meeting

Quentin Halys has had a torrid three months or so, having last won a match back in June at Halle across the ATP Tour and Challenger events. The Frenchman enters this match with no form whatsoever. He faces the Australian Christopher O’Connell who did reach the semifinals last week at a Challenger event in Guangzhou but retired early on in the last four. It remains to be seen if he is fully fit and if he is, he should be the one moving ahead.
Prediction: Halys in 3

Marcos Giron vs Ethan Quinn

Head-to-head – Giron 1-0 Quinn

Marcos Giron had a tough US Open 2025 with two five setters in his two rounds and the American losing from two sets to love up in the second round. He takes on fellow American Ethan Quinn who has steadily rose through the ranks to be in the Top 100. Quinn is an exciting talent but does lack experience still on the main tour. Expect Giron to boss the match with his flat groundstrokes and progress.
Prediction: Giron in 2

Zizou Bergs vs Juncheng Shang

Head-to-head – First Meeting

Zizou Bergs has a healthy win-loss record this year at 24-21, and as a result he is in the Top 50–deservedly so. The Romanian had a decent US Open and will look to continue the good form this week as well. His first round match here is against defending champion Juncheng Shang. The 20-year-old Chinese has not played a lot of matches this year, and he had a lengthy layoff from tennis for about six months. His fitness is still in doubt after he retired at the US Open and it is unlikely even on a wild card entry he would be doing much damage to Bergs.
Prediction: Bergs in 2

Cameron Norrie vs Yi Zhou

Head-to-head – First Meeting

This should be an easy one for the fifth seed this week, Cameron Norrie. The Brit will be looking at this week as a real opportunity to make a deep run. His first round assignment should be an easy one as he faces wild card Yi Zhou ranked 304 in the world. Expect Zhou to be outmanoeuvred from the baseline routinely with Norrie getting an easy win.
Prediction: Norrie in 2
