Emma Raducanu Reaches Highest Ranking since Injury Struggles in 2022

Emma Raducanu is playing the best tennis of her life since her injury issues back in 2022. She made an impressive run to the semifinals of the Citi Open last week, marking her best run in a while on the Tour. She also impressed one and all with consistent performances over her three matches at the Wimbledon Championships where she eventually lost to #1 seed Aryna Sabalenka in two tight sets.

As a result of consistent tennis in the past few months, Raducanu’s career rankings chart has finally earned some stability. She has moved up to #33 in the world, her best ranking since 2022. Many wouldn’t have expected it to be so volatile after she won the US Open back in 2021. However, due to some threatening injuries, her career wasn’t stable for Raducanu and her team.

Raducanu’s ranking progression

Raducanu’s first notable ranking of any sort on the WTA Tour was #343 when she ended her debut year in 2020 with that rank. However, with some solid performances across 2021 and a career-defining win in the Flushing Meadows, she jumped to #19 in the world by the end of 2021. A remarkable performance as she came in as a qualifier and won the entire event without dropping a set.

She further impressed everyone by climbing to #10 (her career highest) in the world in 2022 before getting trapped by a string of injuries and coaching changes. She lost her forehand and her body wasn’t able to cope up with the stress of an athlete as she slipped to #285 in 2023, which was her lowest ranking since entering the Top 10. Since then, the Brit has been rebuilding and quite successfully made it to #58 in 2024.

As she seems to have gotten stronger and has found an impeccable forehand, Raducanu finds herself on the brink of entering a Grand Slam as a seeded player. She is #33 currently and just needs to push a little to get into the top 32 seeds. That progression would earn her kind draw in the main events and would further help her in climbing up the rankings. She can now be seen at the Montreal Masters, hoping to earn another title on the courts that brought her biggest triumph.
