Everyone is in awe of Venus Williams and her remarkable comeback at the Citi Open at the age of 45. Her movements don’t seem to have aged that much and her aura is still pinpoint. Many even questioned Venus about the return of Serena and she did mention that she would love to have her sister back on the Tour despite retiring in 2022. Another fan of the Williams sisters is on the WTA Tour. Former World no. 1 Naomi Osaka spoke wholeheartedly about how she felt on Venus’ return.
Osaka shares the fan girl in her
In her press conference at the Citi Open, she was asked on her views on Venus’ return and how she feels about her playing at such a competitive level. “For me she is the queen, there is a royal air around her”, said Osaka in Venus’ praise. She further continued, “Whenever I see her or Serena, the kid in me comes out, because they were my favorite players to watch. It’s really cool that she is doing it for the fans too.”
Osaka clearly becomes almost like a fangirl as she sees the Williams sisters do their thing on the court. She mentioned how she feels like a kid in front of them and the fact that they were her favorite players growing up. She further continued, “I am glad they played so long. Is Serena coming back, well fingers crossed. Being a player myself I know how difficult it is to be at the top for such a long time. So yeah, they are my mothers, they are the queens.”
Osaka was clearly in awe of the Williams sisters. She also sneakily prayed for Serena’s comeback, and many like her would want that. Both Osaka and Venus are playing at the Citi Open and are set to feature in the Round of 16 at the event.
