Amanda Anisimova Calls Iga Swiatek “An Inspiration” Prior to Wimbledon Final

Amanda Anisimova is having a ball at the Wimbledon Championships as she cruised through to the final on Saturday. Currently No. 13 in the world, and this event was certainly one where she came of age, with many more fans and peers taking notice of her on-court demeanor. In her last match, which was the semifinals, she beat world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka 6-4 4-6 6-4 to set up a final date with the former No. 1 Iga Swiatek.

Anisimova’s Respect for Swiatek

In her post-match press conference, the American was asked about her upcoming final opponent, and this is what she had to say:

“Iga’s such an unbelievable player, and she’s also been an inspiration to me. Her work ethic and all of her achievements have been really inspiring. So I am sure it will be an amazing match.”

The 13th seed admitted that Swiatek has been an inspiration to her over the years, and she has been in awe of her achievements and ethics on and off the court.

She further continued, “Yeah, getting to compete against an unbelievable player again, it’s gonna be super special. Hopefully I can bring some high-quality tennis and make it about a battle out there, just going out and enjoying every moment and trying not to think about what’s on the line there.”

The American is trying her best to treat the final as any other game so that she has her nerves settled right from the get-go. It will be interesting to see whether she can actually block out the thoughts of being in a final, or if the occasion will overwhelm her.

What’s on the Line for the finalists?

Anisimova is looking to become the first American to win the Championships in nine years. The last time an American woman won the event was in 2016, when Serena Williams claimed her seventh Wimbledon title, defeating Angelique Kerber in straight sets.

As for Swiatek, she has won four French Opens and a US Open and will look to end her Wimbledon quest with a first title win at SW19. She has already secured her best result at the Championships and looks a much assured player on the grass in the tournament.

It promises to be a mouth-watering clash as two excellent returners will go head to head in the all-important final.
