Several American women will be in WTA Miami action on Day 1. This includes Taylor Townsend, whose game is among the most entertaining on the WTA Tour when it fires. We at LWOT predict all the matches here and in separate articles, including Naomi Osaka vs Yuliia Starodubtseva, Petra Kvitova vs Sofia Kenin, and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova vs Magda Linette.
WTA Miami Day 1 Predictions
Alycia Parks vs Varvara Gracheva
Head-to-head: First meeting
Both players are wildly inconsistent. Parks demonstrated that at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells by beating Anna Kalinskaya but winning only two games against Diana Shnaider in the following round. While predicting how either of these women will play at is challenging, the conditions in Miami should suit Parks slightly more than in Indian Wells, making her a slight favorite.
Prediction: Parks in 3
Lucia Bronzetti vs Jessica Bouzas Maneiro
Head-to-head: Bouzas Maneiro 1-0 Bronzetti
Bronzetti played well in Indian Wells to reach the round of 32. Bouzas Maneiro lost a very lengthy battle in the opening round of that event to Anastasia Potapova. Both players will try and attack with their forehands whenever possible, and whoever does that better is very likely to prevail. Bouzas Maneiro might make this another grueling match, but I favor Bronzetti’s more over three sets on a hard court.
Prediction: Bronzetti in 3
Hailey Baptiste vs Olga Danilovic
Head-to-head: Baptiste 1-0 Danilovic
Baptiste was among the WTA players who were given wild cards for the Miami Open. She probably deserves it after playing well at the BNP Paribas Open, narrowly losing to Danielle Collins in the second round after coming through qualifying. By contrast, Danilovic was beaten comprehensively by Viktoriya Tomova in the opening round. However, that one defeat does not alter how much she has improved on hard courts since the closing stages of 2024. The Serbian’s heavy topspin forehand will cause Baptiste problems if it is firing.
Predictions: Danilovic in 2
Taylor Townsend vs Ann Li
Head-to-head: Townsend 2-1 Li
Townsend’s successful doubles partnership with Katerina Siniakova has generated attention, but her singles results have been poor in 2025. The American’s only win at any level this year was in the first round of qualifying in Indian Wells. Although Li lost in the opening round of the main draw at the same tournament a couple of weeks ago, her overall level this year has been strong. Townsend can be electrifying at her best, but the steadier Li is the safer pick due to her compatriot’s bad form.
Prediction: Li in 2
