ATP Santiago Final Prediction: Sebastian Baez vs Laslo Djere

Sebastian Baez and Laslo Djere will meet in the final of the 2025 Movistar Chile Open. The former is trying to defend his title, while the latter is seeking his first trophy since 2020. The two clay specialists should deliver plenty of fun in a multi-dimensional encounter that will have both trying to outsmart and overpower the opponent. Who do you think will win?

ATP Santiago Final Prediction

Sebastian Baez vs Laslo Djere

Head-to-head: Baez 2-0

Sebastian Baez completed the Rio de Janeiro/Santiago double in 2024 and while his other results since haven’t impressed, he’s about to pull it off again. He was almost out to Francisco Comesana in the opening round before finding his level to beat Laslo Djere and Camilo Ugo Carabelli (the latter for the third time in as many weeks). The altitude conditions in Chile clearly don’t bother him as he’s been reaching the semifinals in every edition since 2022.

Laslo Djere had a pretty poor season for his standards last year, battling many injuries and falling outside the Top 100. The way back wasn’t easy, but this Golden Swing is such an important stepping stone. After reaching the semifinals in Buenos Aires, the Serbian couldn’t compete in Rio de Janeiro qualifying but is back in full force in Santiago. He took out the in-form Pedro Martinez in the second round before defeating Jaime Faria and Francisco Cerundolo in three sets.

Baez leads the head-to-head 2-0 with both matches taking place in 2023, including a quarterfinal in Santiago. The Argentinian is such a versatile player in these conditions, dictating with his powerful forehand or keeping the ball in play to extend the rallies. While fatigue could be a factor, he’s already shown he has the lungs to go back-to-back during the Golden Swing in 2024. He’s been the dominant player at Rio and at this event over the past two seasons and will be the favorite in Sunday’s final as well.

Prediction: Baez in 3

About Damian Kust

Damian is a connoisseur of the lower tiers of men's tennis and would probably watch the World No. 700 play a ferret if he could see it from the stands. Always pleased by a beautiful one-handed backhand or classic volleying technique.
