Head-to-Head: first meeting
Ugo Humbert played another solid match in the semifinals to book his place into his fifth indoor final and fourth on home soil. The Frenchman broke Zizou Bergs towards the end of both sets and faced just a single break point behind his serve, which he saved. Humbert’s dominance on indoor hard courts when playing in France is mindblowing. He has won 17 of his last 18 indoor matches on French soil and is sometimes unplayable on this surface.
Hamad Medjedovic won the biggest match of his life as he defeated top seed, Daniil Medvedev in straight sets. After the initial three games of the first set, Medjedovic played the best tennis of his life and completely outplayed the Russian. He was quite exhausted after a long three-setter against Daniel Altmaier but it did not affect him in the semifinals. The Serb demonstrated an excellent balance of variation and power to reach his second tour-level final in four months.
Humbert has a great record in finals and has more experience playing them. His aggressive tennis and lefty serve can disrupt Medjedovic’s rhythm. Medjedovic will have to serve extremely well and then play with a lot of variety like he did against Medvedev. Humbert thrives in front of his home crowd while Medjedovic can go with the nothing-to-lose mentality in this match, as he would be the underdog. I expect a good match but can’t go against Humbert in France.
