It promises to be another great day of WTA action in Singapore. Former Australian Open quarterfinalist Anna Kalinskaya is among those who will take to the court on Day 3 of the WTA 250 tournament. All four round of 16 matches are predicted in this article, but who do you think will win?
WTA Singapore Day 3 Predictions
Camila Osorio vs Dominika Salkova
Head-to-head: First meeting
Osorio has experience on her side, but Salkova’s level in her victory against Erika Andreeva in the opening round was more impressive than the Colombian’s. However, Osorio’s mental toughness might prove crucial here. Andreeva wilted pretty quickly when Salkova began to hit winners consistently from the baseline. Osorio, one of the feistiest competitors on the WTA Tour, is unlikely to roll over like that.
Prediction: Osorio in 3
Mananchaya Sawngkaew vs Cristina Bucsa
Head-to-head: First meeting
How well Bucsa manages to recover from her brutal three-hour battle against2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu is vital in this matchup. Sawangkaew has improved considerably in the last six months and is capable of taking advantage of any fatigue. Bucsa’s fitness usually holds up quite well, though, and she will probably be okay after a day of recovering. The Spaniard is backed to win again.
Prediction: Bucsa in 3
Maria Timofeeva vs Ann Li
Head-to-head: Li 1-0 Timofeeva
Li is a player to watch out for this season. She has already beaten 2017 US Open winner Sloane Stephens twice and was competitive against the eventual Australian Open champion, Madison Keys. Timofeeva is a tricky operator and will make Li work hard to win points. Overall, Li’s formidable forehand should do enough damage to reach the quarterfinal.
Prediction: Li in 2
Anna Kalinskaya vs Simona Waltert
Head-to-head: First meeting
Kalinskaya did well to defeat Caroline Dolehide in the opening round in what was a high-quality match. The No. 1 might need that level against Waltert, who dismantled two-time Wimbledon quarterfinalist Ajla Tomljanovic to set up this meeting. Despite that impressive performance, I doubt the Swiss will be able to handle Kalinskaya’s powerful hitting.
Prediction: Kalinskaya in 2
