WTA Singapore Day 1 Predictions Including Anna Kalinskaya vs Caroline Dolehide

Top seed Anna Kalinskaya begins her WTA Singapore Tennis Open campaign on Monday against Caroline Dolehide. It’s not easy to predict how well the Russian will play as she pulled out late from the Australian Open. Alycia Parks also takes the court against Maya Joint and will try to show she’s one of the few indoor specialists left on the tour. We also predict the rest of the day’s matches in a separate article. Who do you think will come out on top?

WTA Singapore Day 1 Predictions

Ann Li vs Daria Saville

Head-to-head: First meeting

Health issues are something that Daria Saville unfortunately had to get used to in his career and after more time off the court last year, she’s now fallen outside the Top 150. But the Australian is still a strong player, even if she wasn’t able to show it in the January swing on home soil. Maybe this could be a good opportunity to bounce back as neither competitor is an indoor master. Ann Li won’t be that bothered with her changes of pace, but also won’t blow her off the court.
Prediction: Saville in 3

Maya Joint vs Alycia Parks

Head-to-head: Parks 1-0

This was a very entertaining final at the WTA 125 in Warsaw last year with Alycia Parks prevailing in three sets. The American can be such a dangerous player when she’s on, particularly in indoor conditions. To end her 2024 campaign, she took apart a very strong field at another WTA 125 in Angers with a final win over Belinda Bencic. Maya Joint is improving quickly, but few can take on indoor Parks at her best. Will she find that level though? Your guess is as good as mine.
Prediction: Parks in 3

Ajla Tomljanovic vs Simona Waltert

Head-to-head: First meeting

The last few years have been filled with obstacles for Alja Tomljanovic and it’s tough to see how much prime tennis she’s still got left in her. But to be fair, her Australian performances were pretty good and not many expected the win over Ashlyn Krueger in the opening round in Melbourne. Despite all her experience, it’s actually Simona Waltert who has more indoor pedigree. However, if Tomljanovic gave herself enough time to practice, she’s still unquestionably the better player here.
Prediction: Tomljanovic in 2

Anna Kalinskaya vs Caroline Dolehide

Head-to-head: Kalinskaya 1-0

Anna Kalinskaya is yet to win a set this year and had to pull out of the Australian Open with health issues. We don’t know much about her fitness at the moment and we’ll have to wait for this match to grant us some insight. While Caroline Dolehide hasn’t played indoors in a few years, her weaponry should apply just fine in these conditions. But Kalinskaya loves the slick courts too and as long as she’s healthy, quality-wise she just has a lot more to offer.
Prediction: Kalinskaya in 2

About Damian Kust

Damian is a connoisseur of the lower tiers of men's tennis and would probably watch the World No. 700 play a ferret if he could see it from the stands. Always pleased by a beautiful one-handed backhand or classic volleying technique.
