The new season continues on Day 2 of the United Cup. Greece’s strong team contains Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari, who will both be in action against Spain. We at LWOT predict the two singles matches and the mixed doubles contest between the countries, but which team do you expect to win?
United Cup Day 2 Predictions
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Pablo Carreno Busta
Head-to-head: Tsitsipas 3-0 Carreno Busta
Although last season was not a disaster for Tsitsipas, he did not reach the heights of his best years. The Greek usually plays well in Australia, though. Carreno Busta returned impressively in the 2024 season after being out for a lengthy period with a severe injury. However, the two-time US Open semifinalist is still not the player he once was. Tsitsipas should be able to ease himself back into form in this encounter.
Prediction: Tsitsipas in 2
Maria Sakkari vs Jessica Bouzas Maneiro
Head-to-head: First meeting
These two players had contrasting 2024 seasons. Bouzas Maneiro made substantial improvements, including beating 2023 Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova in her first match since winning the title at SW19. Sakkari struggled with form and injury issues throughout the year and ended her season early to manage those physical problems. Sakkri might thrive this year because of the lower expectations on her shoulders, but she will likely need some time to find her feet.
Prediction: Bouzas Maneiro in 2
Stefanos Tsitsipas/Maria Sakkari vs Yvonne Cavalie Reimers/Sergio Martos Gornes
Head-to-head: First meeting
It is unclear whether the Spaniards will go with those two inexperienced players for the doubles or make a late decision to change. Tsitsipas and Sakkari are the favorites to win, regardless of who the Spaniards pick. They have played in several United Cup doubles matches together and are a strong team at their best. Team Spain does not have a pair that can match their quality and understanding on the court.
Prediction: Tsitsipas/Sakkari in 2
