Ben Shelton in action ahead of the ATP Stuttgart Open.

ATP 500 Basel quarterfinals

Tsitsipas – Fils: 25.10.2024 14:00 CEST
H2H: 0-1

Stefanos Tsitsipas has won three of his last five matches. Last week in Antwerp, Tsitsipas reached the quarterfinals, when he lost against Lehecka in straight sets. The former world number 3 has been struggling with his form for a while now, and is currently far away from his best form. Here in Basel, Stefanos won his opening match against Cerundolo in three tight sets. In the second round of the tournament, Stefanos defeated Van de Zandschulp in tight straight sets as we predicted. So far this season, Tsitsipas has not had any remarkable results on the hard courts, which led to him being outside the top 10 in the rankings. Last year around this time, Tsitsipas played in Vienna, where he reached the semifinals, losing against Medvedev in straight sets.

Arthur Fils has won four of his last five matches. Two weeks ago in Shanghai, Fils was upset by Carballes Baena in the second round of the tournament. Here in Basel, Fils won his opening match against Altmaier in straight sets. After that, in the second round of the tournament, Arthur won against Martinez in straight sets. So far in the tournament, Fils had a favorable draw. This will be his biggest challenge so far. Last year around this time, Arthur played in Vienna, where he lost his opening match against Medvedev in straight sets.

Best Bet to Make

According to the bookies, this should be a 50-50 match. Both players are struggling with their form. Stefanos is a way more experienced player, playing on the indoor courts, so we believe that his experience will prevail in this matchup.

That being said, Tsitsipas winning is a value bet.

After that, in the 1/8-Finals, the Russian defeated Tabilo in straight sets as well. Rublev had his biggest results on the clay courts this season. His biggest title was in Madrid, where he won the title, winning against Auger-Aliassime in the final.
